Just finished talking with someone who told me about all the great vacations he took during these cold winter months. What do I say? What can I say? Of course, he also lives in a part of the United States that has very little winter, if any at all. Talk about feelings of jealousy, or let’s say envy. First of all, how does one afford all this travel; secondly, where does one find the time; and thirdly, why did this person have to tell me about the places he’s been, knowing full well they are not part of my reality and most likely never will be. Now don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad person. He’s worked hard and deserves the lifestyle he’s created for himself. But, it’s during times like these I need to remind myself of my Godly priorities and my Kingdom responsibilities that are “in but not of this world.” For me personally, it’s been all these Godly experiences that have warmed my heart and hopefully the hearts of others during these cold winter months. These Godly experiences are the “wonderful warm hearted places” I’ve traveled too. I must admit, it’s a different reality, because we are called to “to be in this world, but not be of this world,” which is sometimes easier said than done. But, my encouragement comes from the One who truly was “not of this world” and yet chose “to be in this world.” He made this sacrifice for you and me, and I can only try to do the same!

Remember those Life Cereal commercials with little Mikey who tried it and liked it (I’m dating myself). Mikey was the type of kid who didn’t like anything. So, when his two older brothers gave him a bowl of Life Cereal to eat, they thought he would push it away, but he didn’t. He actually tried it and liked it. On the opposite end of the spectrum, it never ceases to amaze me how some people will try anything except what God has to offer. And, when I say to them, “Try it, you’ll like it”, they simply push it away or ignore it all together. What a shame, because what God has to offer is Eternal Life, something far more meaningful, purposeful, and beneficial, than Life itself.
