Take the Time

The number of hours people spend shopping for gifts at this time of the year is staggering. Whether you shop on line, walk the mall, or drive from store to store, you still spend a great deal of time looking for that special gift for that special someone. I’ve always wondered,
“What if people took just a fraction of the time they spend shopping and spent it instead on their relationship, with God, with someone else, or with oneself. Think about it, time is of the essence, it is the one commodity we can truly give freely and openly, and of course
“relationships” are essential for survival. You may have all the basic necessities, but if you don’t have at least one caring, loving relationship in your life, then it’s hard to consider oneself truly alive. So why not (at this time of the year) bring these two great gifts together, the gift of time and relationship. Instead of spending all our time shopping, let’s spend some time working on our relationship with God (mediation), ourselves (reflection), and each other (conversation). I have often thought to myself, how different Christmas would be if people took some of their precious time and spent it on some of their special relationships. After all, don’t relationships usually last a lot longer than store bought gifts and are they not worth the investment? So, if you are still looking for that special gift for that special someone, why not give them, the greatest gift of all, some of your much needed time and attention!

Empowerment

Who or what empowers your life? Are you totally self-empowered, or do you seek an outside source for that extra empowerment? If you are totally self-empowered, where does all that drive and motivation come from? If you are not totally self-empowered, from whom or what do you seek that extra drive and motivation to keep you going day after day? I know for myself that extra source of empowerment comes from the One who’s power is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and everlasting. I can’t think of a better source for empowerment than that, can you?

So Help Me God

Feeling insecure, inadequate, and unqualified…welcome to reality! For most of us, these feelings are a normal part of our lives as we deal with all the situations, problems, and difficulties that confront us on a daily basis. We are in good company though, because many of the Biblical characters we uphold as examples to follow had the same feelings of insecurity, inadequacy, and lack of qualification, but with God’s help they moved mountains and accomplished much. Everyday, in the midst of those same “feelings” they would say, “So help me God!”, and He did!

A Different Kind of Reality

Welcome to reality, where everything is real according to our senses that function on a three dimensional level, height, width, and depth (four if you include time). Could there be more “dimensions” working in this world than what we can simply see, touch, hear, or smell? I believe in a spiritual dimension. Jesus was always talking about the spiritual dimension. Why? Because that’s where God works most effectively in our lives. It’s a different kind of reality that’s not limited to a three dimensional world (four if you include time)!

Every Step of the Way

You and I are called to represent the God we believe in (Paul actually uses the word ambassador) in all we say and do, so His gracious and loving presence can flow through us (via the Holy Spirit) into the lives of others and our daily situations. Therefore, we can be rest assured that when we walk and talk on His behalf, we can do so with the hope and confidence that God is with us every step of the way!

Looking Forward

There are two ways to live your life, looking forward or looking backward.
To be forward looking is a God-given willingness to accept the future as it unfolds with hope and expectation. To be backward looking is an unwillingness to let go and let God take care of what has been done and left undone. One is a progressive approach to life, the other is a digressive approach to living. We who belong to Christ are called to live lives of significance, possibility, and impact as we move toward the future with God-given confidence!
